Transvestigation, presented by Tweed as part of their Sunday Night Series at Pangea, is a delicious melange of comedy, songs, and character sketches written and performed by Bianca Leigh. This is the fourth of Miss Leigh’s performances in the popular series. Bianca’s work is a comedic ‘transvestigation’ of life’s challenges, including gender, work, stupidity, and death (not necessarily in that order). Standup, theatre, and cabaret come together in an exploration of life’s absurdities, and ways to laugh in the face of all of them.
Bianca Leigh has been a favorite of downtown theatre and cabaret for many years. Her acting roles include Waxy Bush in MTC’s THE NAP on Broadway (Understudy/performed), Mary Ellen in the groundbreaking film TRANSAMERICA, Time/Wind in Taylor Mac’s theatre epic THE LILY’S REVENGE, Franny Halcyon in the New York and San Francisco workshops of TALES OF THE CITY THE MUSICAL (also performed in concert at the Music Box Theatre), Tatiana in Paul Lucas’ award-winning verbatim piece TRANS SCRIPTS at American Repertory Theatre, Beatrice in Christina Anderson’s MAN IN LOVE at Kansas City Rep, and Dr. Rachel Sandow on LAW & ORDER: SVU. Her play, MBJrT, was part of the Monday Night Playwright Series at Kansas City Rep in 2018. She is featured in Laverne Cox’s documentary DISCLOSURE, an exploration of Trans representation in motion pictures and on television, and can be heard on the Audible recording CHONBURI INTERNATIONAL HOTEL AND BUTTERFLY CLUB. Thanks to Kevin Malony and the staff of Pangea for all their support
“What makes it all work is the strength of Leigh’s stage personality and especially those great physical and facial expressions. She can go from Norma Desmond facing the cops at the end of "Sunset Boulevard" to Little Mary Sunshine to a snarling S/M chick in a flash.”- Edge Magazine
